iParticipate ambassadors Matthew Rhys (ABC’s Brothers & Sisters) and Carrie Ann Inaba (ABC’s Dancing With The Stars) joined AARP volunteers for a day of service at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, as part of a larger effort within Create The Good and the Entertainment Industry Foundation's iParticipate volunteer campaigns.
The most recent statistics from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) show that 49 million Americans are food insecure. Additionally, a September study from Feeding America, the nation’s leading hunger-relief organization, found that Feeding America’s network food banks are experiencing a 30 percent increase in need this year. At the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, one of the nation’s largest, demand is up approximately 34 percent over last year.
Inaba, Rhys and AARP volunteers sorted and packaged food for distribution to Los Angeles County residents in need. Create The Good is a network of people sharing tools and ideas to help make a difference in communities across the country. It is powered by AARP and the AARP Foundation’s more than nine million volunteers, donors and activists.
